Event Desciption
Join us in an experiential dive into the profound healing powers of nature, mingled with the restorative benefits of Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation). Part of an ongoing series, this class is an invitation to be embraced by the quiet wisdom and beauty of winter, nourishing your mind, body, and spirit.
Journey into the vital role of rest in Buddhism and contemplative traditions. This seasonal class will feature a reflective eco-dharma talk, exploring the subtle yet profound gifts that arise when we harmonize with the rhythms and intelligence of the natural world, and allow ourselves to be touched by nature’s beauty. We’ll transition in and out of practice with gentle meditations that turn towards the nourishing benevolence inherent to our inner and outer landscapes.
Most of our time will focus on Yoga Nidra*, or yogic sleep. As a practice, Yoga Nidra involves systematic and guided relaxation. For the February session, we will engage natural imagery and visualization inspired by the stillness and wonder of winter. Yoga Nidra is also a restorative and healing state of consciousness. Pairing deep relaxation with compassionate awareness, Yoga Nidra helps to balance our nervous system and to replenish our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
We will conclude our time together with a space for quiet reflection, allowing the practice to settle deeply within. Whether you are new to Yoga Nidra and nature meditation, or a seasoned practitioner, all are welcome to this class. Embrace the gifts of winter and join us for a nurturing and restorative experience.
*A Word About Props
Yoga Nidra is often practiced in a supine shape, however it can also be done seated or standing. To support comfort in your body, please have on hand: a yoga mat or soft rug; 1–3 blankets; 1–2 pillows (or a pillow plus bolster or cushion); and a large and sturdy chair if practicing seated. Optional: eye pillow or scarf; and a water bottle or cup of tea. Note: our core body temperature usually drops in Yoga Nidra— you are encouraged to dress accordingly. If weather and technology cooperate, you might enjoy participating outdoors!
